How to pack the perfect suitcase for your vacation (and do it sustainably)
With summer just around the corner, getaways, backpacks, and suitcases are starting to appear. But… how can you pack without stress, without forgetting anything , and while also traveling more consciously ?
At Capitán Denim, we believe that sustainability also starts before traveling: with a well-designed suitcase, you can reduce unnecessary consumption, avoid last-minute purchases, and lessen your environmental impact.
Here are our practical, sustainable, and tested tips (plus a guide we made last year that's still gold!)

Checklist for your trip
1. Suitcase or backpack? Choose according to the type of trip
There's no single answer. It will depend on your destination, the duration of your trip, and your mode of transportation.
-
Backpack for short, more adventurous or rural getaways.
-
Suitcase if the trip is long, you need more structured clothing, or if you are traveling by more comfortable transport.
Tip: Choose durable materials and models that will last for years. One good suitcase is better than three bad ones.

2. Follow the 3+3+3 method
We always use this trick for trips of less than a week, and it works:
-
3 top parts
-
3 bottom parts
-
3 pairs of shoes (one comfortable for walking, one more versatile, one specific if you need it)

3. Think about sustainable (and functional) clothing
Pack comfortable, versatile, and responsible clothing. Our ideal suitcase always includes:
-
At least one pair of Captain Denim trousers (organic cotton, eco-friendly dyes, and made in Spain)
-
Garments that do not wrinkle easily or that can be used in various contexts.
-
Breathable and natural fabrics such as TENCEL™ or linen.
Every garment you decide to reuse or choose well is a step towards more sustainable tourism.

5. Make a checklist (a real one)
Before throwing things in without thinking, write a list. Divide it into categories:
-
Clothes
-
Footwear
-
Toiletry bag
-
Documents
-
Technology
-
Extras (books, sunglasses, first aid kit)
This will prevent forgetfulness (and unnecessary purchases at the destination).

6. The toiletry bag: compact and responsible
Pack only what you need, in small, reusable containers:
-
Solid shampoo or refillable mini bottles
-
Eco-friendly sunscreen
-
Bamboo toothbrush, if you can
Less weight, less waste, and more awareness.

7. The laundry bag trick
Bring a cloth bag or an old tote bag to separate your dirty clothes. It helps you stay organized and prevents clean clothes from getting mixed up with dirty ones.

8. Leave room for the unexpected
That little space you leave free is always useful: for a souvenir, a purchase, or simply for convenience on the way back.
In short: less is more, and better if it's responsible.
Traveling doesn't mean filling your suitcase to the brim. It means taking what you need, consciously and carefully .
