Biomass: the sustainable energy that powers our factory
At Captain Denim, we not only focus on sustainable materials for our jeans, but we also care about the energy we use in their production. What if we told you that our pants are made, in part, from pistachio shells? Yes, we've heard it more than once: "Do you make pants with pistachio shells?"
The reality is that we don't use them in textiles, but we do use them as a sustainable energy source . Thanks to biomass , we convert agricultural waste into heat to power our factory, reducing the use of fossil fuels and promoting cleaner production.
Why we use biomass as an energy source
For our energy, we choose a circular system, working with local agricultural cooperatives to give their waste a second life . Depending on the season, we use:
Olive pits
Peach pits
Almond shells
Pistachio shells
This is how we close the circularity loop , reducing waste and transforming it into a clean energy source that powers our production.
Benefits of biomass
Real sustainability
Biomass is a renewable alternative to fossil fuels, reducing CO₂ emissions.
Less waste, more utilization
We repurpose agricultural waste instead of throwing it away.
Support for the local economy
We work with local cooperatives, creating a positive impact on the community.
Greensight: Beyond Biomass
Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond energy. Thanks to our Greensight technology , we've reduced water use by up to 90% in our production process using techniques such as nebulization, ozone, and laser finishing . You can learn more about how we responsibly manufacture our jeans here: Greensight .
Pistachio and our sustainable commitment
Today, February 26th, is World Pistachio Day , and while we don't make pants from pistachio shells (yet! 😉), we do use them to continue promoting cleaner, more sustainable production.
Every choice at Captain Denim has a purpose: to care for the planet without sacrificing quality and design .
