Tips for caring for clothes while minimizing the impact on the environment

Although we have already told you about the main care that denim needs , now we are going to address how to carry out the care of clothing in general while minimizing the impact we produce on the environment.

As you know, the washing and care of clothes is in many cases highly polluting for our environment due to the chemical discharges that it entails. For this reason, it is important that we adopt certain measures with which we individually try to minimize the impact that we produce on the environment, which is destroying our planet with increasing intensity.

Here are some tips to care for your clothes while minimizing the impact on the environment:

  1.     Use the hot water to wash only sheets and towels. It is the only way to eliminate mites and bacteria. Remember that if you wash the rest of the clothes at more than 30 degrees Celsius, you damage the fabric and your clothes will last much less than desired.
  2.     Also, as you know, hot water mixed with cleaning products pollutes more than cold water, so we insist: no more than 30ºC!
  3.     The same goes for the dryer: the less, the better. It is preferable to dry your clothes in the open air, always well spread out so as not to create artificial wrinkles -better for the clothes, better for the planet and better for your pocket!-.
  4.     If you want to care for your clothes while minimizing the impact on the environment, you can use vinegar instead of fabric softener: it is a natural product that disinfects, softens clothes, and removes stains and odours. Although it seems strange, the smell of vinegar disappears after a few minutes, although you can also mix it with an essential oil that you like to make the aroma more pleasant.
  5.     When using commercial products -detergents and softeners- you should choose the ones with the fewest ingredients, they will be the least harmful. Try to avoid anything phosphate or sulfate related, as well as fragrances and polishes.

These are some of our tips for caring for clothes while minimizing the impact on the environment. Do you have any more that you would like to contribute? We are all ears!
