What is pre-consumer cotton?
At Captain Denim , sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. One of our key initiatives is the use of pre-consumer cotton in the manufacture of our garments. But what exactly is this type of cotton?
Pre-consumer cotton comes from waste generated during textile production, such as trimmings and scraps, which aren't used in the final garment. Instead of disposing of these materials, we recycle them and give them a new life. This process significantly reduces the environmental impact, preventing large quantities of fabric from ending up in landfills.
Recycling pre-consumer cotton
At Captain Denim , we've been responsibly managing this pre-consumer waste for over two decades. At our factory, we sort the scraps by color and send them to a specialized manager, who transforms them into reusable fibers. These fibers are turned into new yarns that we use to make jeans, like our Flamingo dark blue model, which contains a high percentage of recycled cotton .
Benefits of pre-consumer cotton
1. Waste reduction
Reusing pre-consumer waste prevents large amounts of material from ending up in landfills, supporting a more sustainable production cycle.
2. Conservation of resources
Recycling pre-consumer cotton reduces the need to grow virgin cotton, conserving natural resources and reducing water and energy use.
3. Innovation in sustainable fashion
Using recycled cotton is not only an environmentally friendly solution, but also promotes more ethical and responsible fashion.
Our commitment to circularity
Circularity is key to our philosophy. From waste sorting to the creation of new fabrics, at Captain Denim we make the most of every resource. With projects like Neo-Recycling , we continue to develop technologies that allow us to integrate both pre- and post-consumer waste into our production process, moving closer to a completely circular production cycle.
